check to make sure your hard drive is being found during boot up.
If so you can boot with the cd and choose repair.

To repare the master boot record, start the computer with a Windows Me startup disk and run FDISK /MBR

If you see the HDD in the system setup, boot from a floppy and attempt to scandisk C:, or run FDISK /Status, or FDISK without any switch. If you don't see a fixed disk, or get other errors, check interface cables, and power to the HDD, (could be a loose ground, where it fires up the drive, but sporaticly looses power).
Be prepared for the worst. If your HD is hosed, you will get no response from these utilites...

If HDD found in BIOS and accessible in DOS, please run FDISK and check that your primary partition is ACTIVE.
