Resolved [RESOLVED] Not sure where to post ? about RAM

    So, I'll ask here.

Recently I bought a 64MB chip and had someone else put it into my computer. There were 2 chips in to begin. I'm assuming two 12MB chips, since I had originally had a 24MB of RAM.

He removed the two chips and placed the one chip into my computer. Computer lagged, so he just inserted one of the original chips into the empty slot. Now checking my computer, I see I only have 34MB of RAM. Do I need to add another 64MB chip?

Hey, I'm blonde and know nothing about computers. It's just like my car, I can drive it, but I can't change the oil!

The 2 chips he pulled out were 8MB each
You probably have a Compaq computer where they have 8MB built on board
You need to check your motherboard configuration to see if your memory is PC-100 or PC-66. If it will only accept 66Mhz Ram chips, Then that's what you need to purchase. The 66Mhz RAM chips are hard to find and more expensive than the PC-100 chips.

    Question

Actually, I have a (don't laugh!) Packard Bell Multimedia 550.

I made the unwise purchase before I found out Packard Bell was going out of business!

Anyway . . . I don't know how to check my motherboard configurations! *Blushing* If you could point me into that direction, I would be forever grateful!!

    Exclamation

Haven't been able to get to the Packard Bell site in ?months? I keep getting an error message saying the server is busy!

Financially, a new system would not be feasible at the time Still paying this one off!

Would you happen to know which type of RAM this system is able to support?
