    Post comm port already open!

have seen this a couple times and have never really understood a fix for it. after first installation, the modem will work fine. restart and the specified telephony device is in use by another prog. checked the ms knowledge base and their fix didn't work. what causes this? have disabled serials in bios to be sure ample comm ports and syschk shows plenty of irq's available. even setting the config manually doesn't help. any idears team? oh yea, os = 98 &&/|| ME

I tried to answer you on my XP machine but it does not like the ...UBB or something. Anyways, I have seen this when third party Fax software, like Talkworks pro and Winfax are installed....The modem I have seen this with the most is some USR and PC TEL as well as Win modems. Try to shut down pTSNOOP and also any of the telephony programs before you grab a COM port......

I have seen this problem several times my self. Most of the time it occurs when third party software does not reset the port..

Best solution is a hardware modem or a hybrid like the intel HAm I have had very good luck with these and minimal problems.

Disable com2 in the BIOS and let the modem have com2 in Windows............Especially winmodems.
