which data recovery software is best?
I have a customer whose hd crashed bigtime, and he has no backups of any important data. I searched through the forums and see people like ontrack and lost and found, among others. I really need a recomendation. This drive spins up, but if run a dir all I get are symbols, no directories or anything. God bless stupid customers, they keep us in business.

Have you taken a look at SpinRite 5.0?
If there's anything left on that drive, it will find it.
Otherwise you may have to look up data recovery experts in your area.

Ontrack's 'easy recovery' works pretty good. Depends on how the drive died, and, if the actual partition is messed up. (Kinda like when scandisk 'fixes' everything by dumping all your directories to the root and naming them dir00001 and dir000002 etc. :\ ).

I have been running spinrite on this drive for a few days now,but I don't think it is working. I ran it at level 4 to test the drive, it has a lot of bad sectors at the end. I ran it at level 2 because I thought that would recover data but 30 hours later the drive still has no directory or files on it, just garbage. It is running at level 5 and it says it is restoring bad sectors. Does this mean it restoring data?

Does anybody know how I can buy one copy of Powerquest's Lost & Found? Every website I went to had a 10, 25, or 100 pack of this software.
