Motherboard - Dimm, The Great Circle Thats Ticking Me Off, Help!

i have 4 simm slots, they full with 4x 16mb simms, okay? got that? kewl...
now, i bought a 64mb dimm pc133 today, to fit in the dimm slot next to it... but it dont work (pc doesn't come on with the dimm in, but with it out, its back to normal)
i want to upgrade to 128mb.
i'm using a DTK PAM 0056I motherboard and i've updated the motherboard to 1.12 (i think) please anyone help
why wont the dimm work... its supposed to.
i know my mb can take 128 (max)

If it is a 486 or pentium, I don't think it can handle pc133 memory... They used EDO ram. Check anyway your mobo's manual to see if you can use SDRAM pc133. Also check if there is any jumper to select the voltage of the DIMM bank, old EDO ram used 5v, pc133 ram uses 3.3v...
try also booting just with the dimm, without any simm.

voltage? where do i check that?

i did take all the "simms" out and just had the dimm in, didn't work.

maybe this voltage would work, but i dont have the manuel...

not exactly sure if this exactly in my mb manuel, but it looks familir and its the same model (dtk have a e0 e1 and e2 model, dunno wats the diff..)

2 SIMM sockets are used as a single bank and the only one DIMM socket form
a single bank itself. User can use the combination of 4M, 8M, 16M or 32M
SIMM; 8MB, 16MB and 32MB SDRAM DIMM as the system memory.
However, it is not recommended to install SIMM and DIMM at the same time.
Note: ! The type of SIM1/SIM2 must be same.
! The type of SIM3/SIM4 must be same.
! SIM1/SIM2 and M2 cannot co-exist.
! Non-parity SIMMs and DIMMs is required.
! Only 3.3V, unbuffered SDRAM DIMM can be used.

the parts i'm worried about are the

some of the older VX/TX chipsets will only read PC66 rated SDRAM or low density PC100 SDRAM DIMM's

Looks like your motherboard support's sdram dimms, only UP TO 32 mb, if you are using a 64 mb dimm... it won't work.
Have you seen if there are any BIOS (if it is flash) updates??

I've had this trouble before. Because the SIMM slots share a line with the first DIMM slot, it is hard to get them both in at the same time. If you remove the SIMM's from slot 3 and 4, it should work.

Also, the speed plays a big factor, cheap memory does not always work as well as a branded stick. Try using PC100 instead of PC133. Some motherboards are very nasty and will only take PC66 (Which is hard to find these days)

Many systems WILL NOT work with PC133 RAM ..

old system require PC66 (4clk) 15ns or 11ns DIMMS with limitations on density of chips and single / dual sided modules..

the best Idea for you would be to RMA the DIMM since it's not likely your board supports DIMMS large than 32Mb..

instead try to get 4 x 32MB EDO 60ns with the proper config for your board..

or you can just get a better board - you should be able to finda good Intel 439TX based mobo on ebay pretty cheap and it'll support up to 512MB of RAM (and should work with your DIMM..)
