    Unhappy Norton boot disks.....need help

I use a emachines 600d with windows ME and i had to boot up the system using the Norton basic rescue disk and since then the system has been running in `rescue zip mode`.
Whenever i try and access Norton utilities/Antivirus it comes up with `this application cannot run in rescue zip mode`.
Any ideas how to get out of this rescue zip mode?
Also since booting up with the norton boot disk my CDROM will not recognise any cd`s whether it be a cdrom or audio cd`s.
I have checked in the devise manager and it says thatthe devise is working properly.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Many Thanks

Try booting into Safe Mode and running a System RESTORE, Simon. Doesn't always work but can do.

i take it that u've a zip drive...?

had a quick look on the symantec website and the only reference to rescue zip mode is to do with zip disks!!!

could find nothing to say what it was or how to get rid of it. I would email norton and ask....
Mr Miyagi, by any other name... (is this sig short enough?)

This may be overly obvious, but....why did you have to boot with the Norton Rescue disks in the first place? Was it a virus? You may need to repair or quarantine the infected file(s) before it will allow you to leave rescue zip mode. Of course, if the virus has infected the MBR, you will need to FDISK/MBR.

See if you can MSCONFIG while in Windows. If you can, uncheck all references to Norton anything in the startup portion and reboot and see what happens...
If that works I would consider uninstalling Norton and running regclean on the system then reinstall.

    good luck
