weird power problem
intel d815eea
piii 800eb
smart power 300watt
lian li pc68usb case <---- i reccomend it
os and others aren't important for this problem. sometimes the computer starts in a standby kind of mode out of nowhere. from a powered off state to where it seems just the fans spin. holding the power switch for 5 sec does nothing. i can only kill the juice to it to make it stop or start up normally after replugging it it. what's the dealio? it is connected to a lan but wol is disabled

Don't know about the startup weirdness, but you should be able to shutdown by holding the power button in for 8-10 seconds.
Yeah I know it's almost splitting hairs over three to five seconds, but that seems to be the magic number on all the systems I support.

sounds like ACPI bios acting up, try disabling it, and see too if you have keyboard power on enabled. I had a friend who's thought his computer magically turned itself on at night, even when he SWORE he turned it off....Turns out his cat liked to walk around on his desk at night, and traipsed right across the kb, thus turning it on....
