I've seen this before. Remove the modem from device mgr and with the drivers from usr, which is when this usually occurs, reboot and install the proper drivers.

I have not had much luck with "win" modems especially LUCENT. Describe to the customer the Pros and cons of a Controllerless modem. I always try to reccommend a hardware modem when possible.

But no matter how hard you try to explain the advantages to the customer the advantages of a hardware set modem all they see is the price and think you are just trying to scam them on a higher priced modem. All they see is that they both say 56k. How big of a difference can there be?
