    Post Bad DIMM ???

I just bought a DIMM 256 stick on E-bay. Sinse install Iv'e noticed a decrease in performance: Windows slower. Slower Boot. I used the Norton Utility: Norton Diagnostics to test Memory. The test returned the following:

"Testing 20 patterns on 536870912 bytes of memory
Testing memory using pattern with all bits cleared...
    Error detected at address 153677824
    Test: Failed"

Does anyone think I got a bad DIMM or maybe it's not seated correctly (it was alittle stubborn going in). Also when delivered via US postage in a small envelope, the DIMM was not protected from ESD with bag... just wrapped in one sheet of bubble wrap

    Any thoughts....
    Thanks in advance

SDRAM is about $37 for 256MB, don't waste valuable time on it. It sounds bad.

It was a bad module. I ripped out the suspected stick, and the preformase improved drastically. Also re-ran Norton Util Mem diagnostic:
Testing 20 patterns on 268435456 bytes of memory
Testing memory using pattern with all bits cleared...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set...
Testing memory using pattern with alternating ones and zeros...
Testing memory using pattern with alternating zeros and ones...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 0...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 1...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 2...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 3...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 4...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 5...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 6...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits clear except bit 7...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 0...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 1...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 2...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 3...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 4...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 5...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 6...
Testing memory using pattern with all bits set except bit 7...
    Test: Passed

    Note: Memorypro.com shipped this module in an unprotected, flimsy envelope... steer clear !!! <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0">

I bought it through E-bay but Memory Pro was the one holding the auction... alot of businesses are selling on E-bay now. You just have to be careful though. Some are not reputable.
i contacted them, explained the situation.... and they want me to pay a 15% restocking fee... can you believe it?

Perhaps you should remind them you bought it at auction as a working module, not from there website company per-see and as such they sold it complete with a guarantee that it was functioning correctly.

You should not have to pay for a restock fee if it is returned as RMA.
    it is just bad buidiness.
give it to them where it counts, on thier reputation on ebay.

That's exactly what I intend to do. That is bad business. I already indicated that I would give them a negative review. Also said I would spread the word to beware... let's see if that changes their tune... I'm not so concerned over a few dollars... It's the principal.
