windows & dos program
The company that I am working for is starting to install new computers, that have windows 2000 pre-installed. So far we have transferred some of the older programs that the users use. Whenever we test out the programs they work perfectly. There is this one program that uses a security key, that is installed on the printer port...whenever you first start up the computer and run the program it works fine, however whenever you install the printer and print a test page, then try and run the program you are unable to run older dos program, seeing as it cannot read from the security key on the printer port. Is there some type of work around, patch or fix for this issue??

Tough one there. I expect the security device uses drivers that get replaced when printing. A few quizes.. Are the printers networked? Switch? or seperate printer ports? If it's one of the first two, try installing a second LPT port, otherwise, i have no idea. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

This machine is at a remote location, so its not on the network. They are local printers, might try adding the extra printer port and see what happens.

Had the same problem at one of my sites. They did not want to network the unit so as to share a printer, so I installed a PCI(ECP/EPP)printer card and installed the printer on LPT2, leaving the key on LPT1. Worked fine... Good Luck!
