[RESOLVED] dual boot win2000 and win 98
I have win2000 and win98 on seperate disks. I'm having trouble dual booting. I tried boot magic, but I get an error on win2000. It will boot to win98 OK. Both are fat32. Anybody have any ideas?

what error are you getting?
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water

As I remember it said "error in boot.ini file"
can't find boot.ini file in win2000.

they have hidden it, it's now under control pannel administrative tools. You will want to check the system and the application log.

Which did you install first? I had a similar problem wieh i installed Win98 and linux as a dual boot. The reason is that WIN2k and Linux both write changes to the boot sector of your disk -- they will recognize win98 fine, but install win98 over it; and it overwrites the needed files for Linux/2000. The way i solved it was to install 98 first, then linux.
Hope it helps...

One other thing you can try is to boot off your windows 2000 CD and instead of installing the OS, choose the repair option, and select the manual repair, and the 1st and 3rd options. Win2000 should then go and repair your boot.ini if that is where the problem is.
Otherwise, check the root directory of the partition where windows 2000 is installed. that's where boot.ini usually lives.

It doesn't matter if they are on different disks! They [both os's] use the c: drive's boot sector! So you have to either install 98 first then 2k,or repair the 2k install as suggested.

I concur. Both boot using your Primary Master's Boot sector; but pass controll to either the seperate partition (in my case); or the disparate drive (in your case). The net effect is identical
