Question Compaq Armada M700 Shutdown in Docking

Different Compaq Armada M700 laptop than last one. (Posted question Thursday last week) This one, running W98, will not shut down while docked (Compaq Armada Convenience EM Base), it requires that you physically undock the laptop and then remove the battery. It shuts down fine when powered up outside of the docking bay. Laptop is not onsite, but is available remotely using pcAnywhere. User getting pissed.

Try loading some of the supporting software from http://www6.compaq.com/support/files...te/4_1009.html

Oops, must have forgotten to state that the laptop is new, just out of box, user has been using it for less than one week. Checked that website for any new items before it shipped. . . .

Also, docking bay is just a pass through without NIC. . . .

what if you remove the docked profile and reconfigure the system. I know this works on the Dell machines. You might also want to check if the win98 shutdown patch has been installed. I tsounds like there is some driver that is not allowing the machine to shut off. Would you happen to have another identical docking station to test it out with?

My boss's solution is to upgrade to 2000, it's more stable.

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

    1) There's a rompaq that addresses this (sorta)
    2) Microsoft has a patch for Win98 Shutdown issues.
