Post BIOS need new mobo battery?

When booting, I get the error message "harddrive failure, F1 to continue". When F1 is pressed, it boots normally. I have checked the harddrive, and it seems OK. Could the mobo battery cause this?

Double check all you connections. the IDE cables and molex's, make sure of you dipp switches on your drives.
I wouldn't think the battery could cause that kind of error messages.

S'pose there's a distant chance it could be. Is the clock keeping time (when turned off)? If it is, batt's fine.

    No offence intended...
    Seriously saying,I agree with Danimal...
It's may be also problem with harddrive's electronics.Check HDD's S.M.A.R.T. status to be sure. If something wrong with drive, backup data ASAP!

Clock keeps time, checked the IDE cables, checked the jumpers. Where would the dipp switches be, and what is a molex?

Molex is power connector from power supply to Your harddrive. Molex was the company, what patented and now produses in large quantity that type of connectors,I think.

About Your problem...I think, what probably Your harddrive spin up slower then it should be.
Check HDD's SMART status to be sure,as I have suggested.

To isolate the problem, I swaped my harddrive out with another that I know works. Exactly the same thing happened "harddrive failure".

    Quick thought

Is you IDE setting in bios set to auto ?

Try a detection on the HDD and reboot and see what happens

Have tried a BIOS upgrade, set to auto and many other BIOS options.

Could be that the HDD controller is rogered. Maybe try the drive on the other channel? If it works on a different channel, only way to resolve it is to either buy a HDD controller card or be limited to only 1 channel...

What is rogered? What channel, and how would it be changed?

rogered = screwed. rogered = shagged. Various other words, but I guess you get the picture - basically it might be broken.

Test on another channel by plugging the IDE cable into the other IDE port on the mobo (i.e. the other channel). If it works through this port, its not looking good for the original channel. If so, can always get a cheap HDD controller card and that will get around the prob for you. But test it first, as it may not be rogered...
