X10 Pop-up Ads...
Thought some of you might be interested....After continuing to get those crappy pop-ups long after I had followed the opt-out instructions, I sent X10 the following email:
Thanks to your pop-up ads, you can now consider me another person who will never buy any of your products. I've run your opt-out links several times and was promised I wouldn't be bothered for 30days. Yeah, right.
Today, I received the following reply:
We just identified and fixed a problem with the opt-out system, a problem that we had been trying to track down for a couple days. It only affected the ads on some sites, but they were some of the bigger sites we advertise on. The problem should be fixed now, and you should stop seeing the ads. I'm sorry for the trouble this whole process has been.
We really do want to let people stop seeing our ads, so please let me know if you have any further problems with this system.
Regards,
Michael Cole

I would never suggest that the rest of you write and complain about pop-up ads. In fact it would be very wrong of me if I were to suggest that the thousands and thousands of people who might read this should write and complain.....

Don't worry...I'm gonna tell them that I blocked their entire domain from my network, and I will not remove the ban. And that I will aslo be turning them into the AG.

Yea the banners and popups really do suck, but X10 technology is really interesting stuff. They make some really cool/useful products, so if you decide to never buy anything from X10 just because of a stupid popup ad well its your loss.

I was curious as to what all this X10 hoopla was about, so I checked out the site, and basically they sell products for home automation, security and surveilance.
I use filtering software to stop pop-ups before they start, so it didn't bother me any.

Since we're on the subject of hated pop-ups, the one that really has been pi$$ing me off is the damn "You have 1 new message!" pop-up. I hate that damn thing!

I dont like POP UPs either ,however a frien gave me a monitor box full of X10 stuff that I am just now starting to play with. Some of it is pretty neat. Along with pop-ups I am getting tireds of redirects. A couple of weeks ago we were trying to download a driver for an old Magic snd card and kept getting redirested to a porn site in Germany. It has happened numerous times.

Here is the reply I received from the webmaster at X10.com:
Thank you for contacting us with your concerns. These ads are opened when
you visit a site that we have an advertising relationship with and they do
not track you personally. We advertise on many popular web sites; any of the
sites you visit regularly might run our ads. Because of the way the ads
work, you should only see them once a day from each of the sites they are
on.
You can remove yourself from our pop-under advertising by following the
instructions at the bottom of this page:
http://www.x10.com/x10ads.htm
If you follow these instructions, a cookie will be placed on your PC that
tells us not to display the ads to you.

Michael Cole

Anyone found a way yet to hack the cookie so that it'll be off for more than 30 days?

The cookie still isn't reliable either. I got another popup X10 yesterday.

For those of you who are annoyed by those “You have 1 message waiting for you” pop ups a place to start would be to Email David Stein @ [email protected]
He is the technical contact on their site.
Thanks NeoTrace!!!!
