First thing I would do is set the view to tiles, icons, list, or details in the view menu

Have you tried resetting defaults and then applying to all folders in tools, folder options?
Though how you managed to get this customisation on a root drive is odd in the first place.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

First, you may need to reveal hidden/system files in folder preferences; then try looking for destop.ini, folder.htt and thumbs.db in the D:\ root. try deleting those files then close the window and reopen it to refresh. HTH
As a last resort, you can try to reset all folders to default; that option is in folder options under the view tab

i'm reffering to the folder "D:\" .
in this folder (view hidden files on) there are no *.ini files of any sort or non of the above mentioned files (unfortunately)..
what can i do ?

did you try resetting the folder views?
- Go to Folder options (Control Panel or under tools menu)
- Pick the View tab
- press the "Reset all Folders" button
