Hi I wonder what would happen if I continue to flash a new BIOS even if I get a BIOS ID error message??
Im 100% sure that I have the right BIOS for the board!!

You may have the right board, but do you have the correct revision?
as for continuing I would advise against it, if you post more infro about the board, I'm sure someone will be able to get the latest BIOS update and confirm that the one you have is correct.
It maybe just be an incompatible boot block, but just incase I would take the time and wait, or read up on Ruslan's BIOS recovery tips before hand.
Good Luck.

Well I´ve done it, by using an older version of awardflash utility I managed to flash the new BIOS After doing some digging I found this bit of text which explained everything,
VIA based chipset motherboards:
The VIA chipsets are new enough that they are not always properly detected by the flash utility. These motherboards may return an error saying that the part number is invalid. This is normal. The flash utility is very new in comparison to the motherboard and some of the changes in the bios identifier code can cause the flash utility to think that there is a mismatch. Tell it to flash anyway and it will work successfully.
Hope this will help some people in the Future!
Bye for now & thanks for all the Help everyone.

How were you able to overcome this? I am running into the same problem with a gigabyte mobo that someone flashed with the wrong bios version. It is now not allowing me to flash it back to the correct version, I am getting the same "bios id error". What flashing utility did you use? Can you send it to me? Thanks.

Hi there,
If the BIOS ID error is coming up you may want to check a couple of things.
First see if there is a BIOS update jumper on the motherboard or a setting in the BIOS to prevent accidental flashing.
Secondly, see if you can get a copy of AMIFlash (depending on the motherboard model will determine what version to use, I tend to use 8.53 - 8.64) and disable the BIOS ID checking in the settings - only do this if you are 100% sure you have the correct BIOS.
Thanks for digging up this post - brought back memories.
And Welcome to Windrivers!!
hope this helps.
Having said that - does the motherboard post?

Thanks Garak for the reply. And yes, the motherboard posts.
Not sure if it has any settings in the bios to prevent accidental flashing or not, I haven't seen anything in there, and have been in the bios tons of times, but maybe I just haven't looked in the right place. Where would the settings be? Do you know?
Will Amiflash work for an Award/Phoenix bios? Also don't think there are any settings on the motherboard to either allow or not allow a bios flash. Unless you may know something I don't, it is a GA-7N400S, if that helps.
Ok, well, thanks for any help on this.

Hi there,
It seems this board doesn't have any settings like this - just spent the past 20minutes looking through the manual.
Yes, AMIFLASH util will flash the BIOS but you'd have to change the default settings (turn off check BIOS ID basically) in the settings menu of the application and you can effectively write any flash to any chip - providing that the flash is the correct size and the application supports the chipset of the motherboard.
I'm not sure if you have tried the QFlash util that is built into most giga-byte motherboards these days - if not try that first it maybe less complicated - the procedure is detailed within the manual found here
Hope this works for you

Thanks Garak, yes I've tried the built in Qflash utility, that's where I am getting the "bios id check errors". And have tried a bunch of other utilities, looking for the utility that is going to work.
Hopefully the amiflash will work finally. Thanks again for the tips. Oh yeah, where can I download the latest copy of amiflash? Can't seem to find the version numbers you referred to. I was only able to download version 8.27.41, and that was right from American Megatrends site.

Version 8.64 was designed as universal for both Award and AMI BIOSes.
So, sometimes it called Award BIOS utility like for example, here:
Gigabyte called it simply "Universal Flash Utility" or "DOS Flash Utility" http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/MotherBoa...oReflash_1.htm .
Many of Gigabyte's BIOS updates are having that utility included into update zip-file. Read the manual before using it!
Be careful! Make sure you have correct version of BIOS update for your MB.
Flashing wrong version can make your MB not booting at all...
Don't forget to save your current BIOS into backup file...
BTW, I just found version 8.65 here: Page is written in Polish, but these BIOS Rescue Floppies can be very useful...
