OK, I"m stumped-boot problem

Hi,
Here's a little background...

ECS K7S5A mobo w/ 1 GB pc133 micron ram
AMD XP 2000 processor
ATI AGP video
creative SB Live
Win XP home

While using my system, it would sometimes hang on me. IfI reboot, it would go, then hang--eachtime hanging sooner...seemed like an overheating of the cpu problem because if I shut down for 30 minutes or so, it would boot up ok. I figured I fried the proc, so I bought a new one. Well, installed the new proc with a quality heat sink and fan, but so post or boot still. When I first turned the system on with the new proc, I got the post screen, but at the bottom it said cmos battery low, hit f1 for setup or f2 for default settings, but the machine had froze there. I re-booted, but now have nothing, no video, zip! I installed a PCI video card, but still nothing. It's a new system, only about 30 days old. Did I cook the mobo? or could it be a PSU problem? All the fans and drives work. I don't get any beep errors, and the CD and DVD drive lights go on-off on off and the HD light just stays lit. Anyone have an idea? the psu is a duro ? 400W that came w/ the system. I'll be here all night for your trouble shooting pleasure--heck, it;s only Christmas eve! First, unhook all the drives bar the floppy drive
and then pull any pci cards - leave the agp.

Will it post then?

disconnected all as you suggested, but still no boot NOO noo.

OK, to plan b

pull the video card, or is it onboard?

If so, pull the ram... oh check the speaker is connected....

It should squeal because it has no ram, if it dont, it the the cpu or the mobo is dead... if it do, then your onboard vid has gone down.

OK, pulled the ram, and the AGP card (no on board vid) and no squeel. no beeps, nothing.

OK, other things to try

Swap out the PSU..
Does the floppy disk do anything?
Do the keyboard lights flash?

Reseat the cpu, reseat the ram and vid card... etc

Build the thing outside the case.

Clutch at straws under the desk, sometimes you get lucky!

I've never kilt a mobo before...could it had been something I did? I haven't tried a different psu yet, is it worth a try? Can you recommend a quality amd xp mobo that supports dma 133? ba-humbug! ( I wonder if my xp1900 cpu is still good...)

I'll see if I can find some straw....I'll try the alternate psu. I've tried re-seating everything about 5000 times...When I switch on the psu from the hardware switch on back panel the keyboard lights light up momentarily, but not if I push the front panel button. The floppy light don't come on...Crud

Um you have got the pwer connector on the right pins of the motherboard?

if you mean from the front panel of the case? yeah. It booted momentarily earlier this afternoon, and I haven't pulled those connections. I've tried another PSU, a hipro (known working) and still no joy...looks more and more like a dead mobo

Got a pci vid card?
Put it in, pull the agp card,
Reset cmos via the jumper

NooNoo, tried it, no joy...looks like a DOA board. Have any favorite amd mobos you can turn me on to? BTW, Happy Boxing Day! Hey, do you know hwat boxing day means? While I was living in England, I had several friends (native Britts) that didn't know how boxing day started...I still got several different answers.

* sorry bout the mispellings...just got four stiches in my flipper offer finger and it's splinted...hard to type- damn flouresent light toobs!
