    Keeping Track of Bytes Transferred

    OK guys, silly question:

    You know you can right-click on the modem icon and select Status and it will give you details such as Connected Speed, Duration, Bytes Rcvd and Sent? Is there such a function within Win98SE that would accomplish the same thing for my 10/100 Base T connection? I've played around with Netwatcher and System Monitor but they seem clumsy at best. Just curious what everybody else uses.

    Yikes! Yeah, you're right...a bunch there.

    What I'm looking for is more of an activity indicator. This particular unit is sharing a dialup connection with another machine in another room. As you know, quite often the browser screen will just sit there...nothing appears to be happening. With the modem status as stated above, I can see "data bytes received" increasing. Without it, I can't see anything happening.

    so you mean you want a network monitor... to see if the client is still receiving/transferring data?

    Yes. So that the client themselves can see data bytes being received. As it is, the client can't see anything happening. They are plugged into a hub and we can see the activity lights on it blink but the hub is hidden under a desk. I suppose I can put in more in view for the customer...perhaps on her desk but that will be taking up space.

    Sorry to be so picky but this is what the customer wants.

    OK, I tried that last link you gave me and downloaded the PeerMonitor. But all it gives is a Green light for being able to ping and a Red light for not being able to ping...not activity indicators at all.

    I ended up going to Control Panel and in there is an icon for Intel(R) PROSet. It has my NIC card listed and there is an activity indicator on the General tab and Packets Sent & Packets Rcvd in the Network Driver tab...it counts up as more data is Sent & Rcvd. This is what I wanted.
