The E bomb.
Just think if Bill Gates gets a hold of one. Every one would have to buy new computers.

I wonder if that site is being monitored?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Why do you suggest that?

Because it gives pretty clear instructions on how to build one.

I didn't even read the article. That is pretty irresponsible to post that information, who would you report that information to?

It was published in a magazine as well. Why would you "report it" ?
The internet has many such useful articles for the would be terrorist. I gather there are special departments that do nothing but comb the internet for these types of sites and monitor them.

Vigilance is a good enough reason for me. Suposed this site has missed being spotted by anyone that can do something about it...

all the way at the bottom is this statement.
Source: POPULAR MECHANICS
I don't think it's all that easy to make, but i could be wrong...
i think that the airborn laser in a military 747 is pretty cool

He tells us that it'll knock out all cars, except a few diesels, and later goes on to say that a Faraday Cage is immune(!?!).
A saloon car is a perfect Faraday Cage, unless it's made of fibreglass (unlucky all you 'Vette, Lotus, Reliant owners) and is reckoned to be the safest place to be in a thunderstorm!!
I suppose that a desktop case must also constitute a Faraday Cage......
To paraphrase Star Trek's Scotty...............
"You canna break the laws of physics"
I caught a documentary on Discovery about this very subject only the other week. As I recall, the technology is perfectly viable and is under development but requires phenominally high power to work and is very short range.
$400 - I don't believe it...
Was the article originally published last April 1st??
Now where did I leave my Lump Hammer?

Old news. Not this device per se, but there's a whole lot of stuff that popular science and mechanics shows you how to build that could be used to disrupt radio waves, cell phones, etc. Been like that since I was a kid.
Quite honestly this stuff is beyond the average person browsing the net and even a lot of techs. If someone was to want to build something like this they would most likely find their information from other sources rather than go to a website to get all of their information.

The reason a car is safe from lightning is it is isolated from ground by the rubber tires, it has nothing to do with RFI/EMP resistance.
I suppose that a desktop case must also constitute a Faraday Cage......
For this to be true it would have to be all metal with no openibgs/seams and grounded.
I was in the Gulf war as a Radar/Missle Tech and all our equip was RFI/EMP shielded and that even depends on how close the blast is. Our computers even had to have special RFI/EMP screens (copper i think) over fan openings to absorb the energy.
