    HP Tech Support

Tech Support: Thank you for calling HP, how may we help you today?

Me: My microphone doesn't work, I tried detecting new hardware, and I tried searching for the software, but it just doesn't work. Is there any way I can restore the machine?

Tech Support: I'm going to need you to go to 'Start, Settings, Control Panel, and add new hardware.'

Me: But I already tried that!

Tech Support: No, if you had tried it, it would have worked.

    Me: Ok, fine.

    5 minutes later

Me: It's done, there is no new hardware.

    Tech Support: Do it again.

    Me: why?

Tech Support: Because you must have made a mistake.

    Me: ok...

    Another 5 minutes

    Me: Same thing.

Tech Support: Ok then, I want you to go into your hardware profiles by going into the start menu and choosing ALL PROGRAMS---

Me: That's not how you get into the hardware profiles, and I'm using the classic start menu.

Tech Support: I need you to switch to the regular start menu please.

    Me: What??!!

Tech Support: I cannot help you if you have the classic start menu.

    Me: Ok, fine. Done.

Tech Support: Now go into the hardware profiles and tell me what you see.

    I read it off.

Tech Support: That's strange. There should be an ethernet card in there.

Me: I don't have an ethernet card.

Tech Support: Could that be why your sound isn't working?

    Me: Doubt it.

Tech Support: Well, it is possible that the computer thinks the driver is there---

Me: It's not even in the hardware list!

Tech Support: But it is just not working. This could be a problem.

    Me: Really?

Tech Support: I need you to restore you computer.

    Me: How?

    Tech Support: Go into start....

    I started the restore

    Me: now what?

    Tech Support: Pray

Ok, I will admit that there is one fabricated thing in there...the argument about the start menu did not happen. However, I believe that HP did record the conversation. You should have heard my argument about the extended warranty.

ETOX is Daniel_C's other nickname in the chat room. He has a long history of fabricating stories from thine air... I don't believe one bit about this story.. add/remove hardware for a microphone? balderdash, you don't install drivers for a microphone, those are supported by the audio drivers..

and the tech saying "Pray" bullsh*t.

    Try again ETOX

Yes mat, I know they are supported by audio drivers. That is why I was so confused. Believe what you will. Just know that sometimes the fault lies with the support and not the user.

if you know that, why would you say you've already done that?

I agree, sometimes the tech IS at fault, but not something as stupid as yoru claiming.. try again. I don't buy it.

When I run out of things to do, I'll try the things that I know won't work. But nevertheless, at the time I did not know how the microphone was supported. I just knew that it didn't work and I needed help. I only recently learned how it worked, and it was because I came here and sat in the chat room for hours on end.

The interesting thing is that if you where the least bit serious about things, rather then fabricate stories, any of the operators, myself included would have assisted. However, since you've had issues in the past of causing a rucus, most people shrug you off. It's like the story of the boy who cired wolf... you've yelled it to many times already...

Well, you can make your own reputation in the forums, I'm already biased by your behavior in chat.. so you decide.
