    Post New Processor

I'd like to upgrade my processor on my PC.

I've currently got a celeron 450. Not sure what my mobo will upgrade to though. How can I find out?

Easy! post the specs of your motherboard in this thread and wait!

Somebody should be able to tell you the 'fastest' cpu that'll run on your MB

Celeron 450? No such CPU my friend. Looks like you have one of the 300A celerons overclocked. Chances are good you have a BX or ZX board. If it's ZX, your out o luck, it will only support mendecino and katmai CPU's, if it's a BX board, it MAY (depends on bios rev and company) support the coppermine CPU's, if that's the case, you can go up to a P3 1000E (remember, no 133 bus)

    Doubt it....

    Celeron 450 benchmark test results

    more benchmarks

Mind you if compaq managed a 150% overclock....

Often there is info on the m/b besides serial numbers like multiplier tables and FSB speeds, contained in little tables (almost always in white) any of those....

    Read this Motherboard id

This explains about BIOS strings, post that if you can glean no more info from the board...

The first link, has part of the intro, they stated that they overclocked CPU's and give a list of CPU's that they used.. 300A was there but no 450... Hmm.. you can see the list here

That second link you have, EVERY single celeron 450 is a 300A overclocked..(look in the notes colum)

Also if you look here there is no celeron 450 accoding to Intel.

The mendecino core was a CPU the Intel NEVER released on the 100 Mhz bus. That cpu IS overclocked (or under clocked)

Agree with Matridom here. There never has been a 450Mhz Celeron mass produced by intel. There have been pre-release samples without multiplier locks and this processor could possibly be one of those. As for the board upgrade question, you should be able to put any fcpga celeron 1 in your board(533Mhz $27) but again, I recommend like many others here that you do some research on your board to find out for sure.
Note: To correct display problems, hold the "ALT"key and press"F4".

yup, the 533 would be the highest for sure, but a 450 overlcocked will perform almost the same (100 Mhz bus vs 66 Mhz bus). You could also more than likely go with a P3-600 (no E, no B - hard to find) I'd look well into the board and see what chipset it has... there should be two large chips on the mobo with Intel logos, just post the numbers here...

Well i think that your Out o luck...

Unless you can get the model number, there is no way to know if there is a bios update to support coppermine. Since you can't tell, then error on safety and say a p3 -600 katmai (512k cache)

If your running at 466, you should see a good boost. Also remember that you may need to get pc100-133 ram. (your ram may only be pc66)

you mean the model number for the PC or the model number for the mobo?
