Is it jut me or does clear type make it look worse, save the pictures to disk and then view them you'll notice the difference.
I am using a Viewsonic 15" LCD, mentioned below in my pc specs

Can't see the pictures fella ! ... 'this page is not available !' ... so I'll just have to beleive ya
Usually the 'best' results are seen in high colour (32 bit) ...
If you think the results are 'worse' with cleartype enabled ... then don't enable it !

You have to copy and paste the links because it is a geocities account. Cleartype looks fine to me on your system.

I agree the normal looks clearer - however this may be about native resolutions.

cleartype is hard to see unless you view it on an LCD panel
GRC has a good artical on the whole thing.

'Tune it in' then .... M$ Cleartype tuner (updated)
"updated ClearType Web interface for Windows XP allows users with Windows XP Service Pack 1 to configure ClearType for the rare BGR configuration of color LCD monitor as well as the more common RGB displays. " ... see if that helps you...

My Pocket PC has an LCD (duh) and I leave clear type disabled on it, I prefer the sharper look of "normal" mode. Also, the subpixels have to be in the right order (I.E.: RGB or BGR) or else it will create colored edges like someone described.
