    Accessing XP laptop from a Windows 2000 server

    I am not using Active Directory or any domains, just good ol' Windows workgroups. I am trying to scan the XP Pro laptop with Shavlik's HFNetChkPro and it said I didn't have admin rights (the username and pwd are correct.) So I tried to browse to the XP laptop from my Win2k Server and I get prompted for the username and password. None of my attempts worked.

    Anyone know what I am missing? I have not played with XP much as of yet.

    The user name you logged into the 2k server with, does it exist on the laptop and does it have admin rights? What shares have been set up on the laptop?

    The usernames and pwds are the same. Administrator. I think I just got an answer from the Shavlik folks. They said to turn off simple file sharing. I am going to try this.

    Simple sharing was on (I find simple file sharing under the Appearance and Themes menu???)

    Had to allow XP to actually share the file. Even though folders where shared, XP was not allowing it to actually work until I said it was okay to share and I understood the risks. Sheesh.
