    Unhappy registry editor

I try to open regedit in RUN, but the windows shows a message said that registry editing has been disabled by administrator. I'm administrator, how to enable it? I'm using Windows XP Professional SP1.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\
    System
    Value Name: DisableRegistryTools
    Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = allow regedit, 1 = disable regedit)

This string has to be changed in the registry.

Some spyware can cause this. You may need to download a registry tweaker to actually get in to change the values.

Catch 22 ? ... methinks last time I got this I had to log into 'safe mode' as 'THE administrator' (the built in account not one with administrator privaleges) .. or did I have to do it from prompt ? ...try safemode, if not there are ways to do it from console, but my befuddled memory can't work that bit out just yet ... its early for me !

Its also 'common' for pre-installed systems to come this way to stop/limit 'tinkering' ....
