    inspiron 3800 problem

When I try to start laptop with wind 98 se the machine will start "dell" screen and status bar will only load to about 80% and stops; I have reseated memery and reseated hard drive and basically all components that could be removed and reseated as dell stated that this problem happens on laptops (bad seats on components. I have been told it could be a bad sector in hard drive. The machine did boot once for me and ran fine and on next boot up it failed . Any help would be appreciated.

will it boot in safe mode?

try running scandisk c: from either your win 9x cd rom or from a c prompt , u may want to do a full surface scan ,

try reloading win 9x over the top of the orig settup.

u may have a corrupted file sys.

update;p this is what has been tried with no results; removed hard drive and tarted laptop; the status bar went to same spot(80%) and stopped so does this mean hard drive ok? Also removed one memory slot; restarted and it said memory had changed and sat there; restarted again and it went to the 80% mark again; tried other memery slot removed and it did exact same thing; does this mean memery is ok? HELP, HELP!!!

    try another hard drive.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
