STOCKHOLM--Ingvar Kamprad, the Swede who founded furniture retail chain IKEA, has overtaken Microsoft's Bill Gates as the world's richest man, Swedish TV news reported Sunday.
Citing next week's edition of the Swedish business weekly Veckans Affarer, public service SVT2 television said Kamprad, 77, has a personal fortune of 400 billion crowns ($53 billion).

Gates's fortune is put at $47 billion, according to the latest list of the world's rich in Forbes magazine, SVT2 said.

It's all of those law suits that are killing Bill. He would be richer, if he wasn't found guilty of being rich!

The question is, how do you sew a furniture manufacturer?

What about the Sultan of Brunei? I thought he was far and away the richest man in the world....or has he died and his 50 or so wives split his cash equally?

As I recall, he blew most of it away, and some was tied up with al Fayed's "investments" at one time.

He's not even on this list of the world's richest people according to Forbes. Pretty much taken over by MS execs and Wal-Mart heirs, the Waltons.

This Montreal guy is doing pretty good for himself:

Guy Laliberté got his start playing an accordion for tips on the streets of Montreal. Today his act is one of the most lucrative ventures in live entertainment.
He's the "guy" behind Cirque du Soleil, and reported as having a net worth of 1.1 billion $.
