Internet Explorer issue
Hi, have a colleague who is stuck with an issue that is bewildering him, I haven't had chance to look yet, so though I would chance my luck here to see if anyone has had the same issue before...
Windows 98SE, Internet Explorer 6, networked on a domain, DHCP.
Can ping addresses on the internet by name and number without any issue, opening IE says website found and gives the ip address, so is resolving names ok, but on every website it says "unable to display page" after about 2 minutes.
Chap has re-installed IE6SP1 from MS website, all other PC's on network working fine, e-mail/Office, etc all works fine. This problem though has only started occurring since installing a new server.
Static IP, and re-install of network card not yet been done.
Any help appreciated.

As its 98 try uninstall & reinstall of DUN ? (Its dead easy in 98 as its a 'windows component' unlike xp/w2k - has the effect of re-doing TCP/ip & its 'stack' etc ) - maybe also toasted winsock to consider ?

Hello again!
Have just checked with colleague, he has done the static ip/network card re-install, but not the DUN.
Hadn't thought of toasted Winsock, but did find an article relating to windows 2000 regarding Winsock, so when he next visits, I'll get him to try the DUN. Is 1.4 the latest version?

Oh & thinking a bit more (my that hurt ! ) there's also spyware & errant apps messing with registration of required dll's - run sfc & see if that kicks anything back ..
If I could get Search on the KB to work 'as expected' I'd quote you the .dlls that might be at issue , the one I can remember is urlmon.dll (there's some more but I think sfc should show them up)
