[RESOLVED] My phone lines suck!

I'm connecting at 28800 on a good day with a V.90 Modem. I've run the US Robotics phone line test and it said that my line was not cabable of 56K. SO I call the phone company and they say "We only guarantee 28800 connects!" Is this some crap or what? How can I get the phone company to clean up my line?

You probably can't. The phone company is under no obligation to provide you with anything better than 9600, actually. Depending on your area, you may be able to get a second, data line installed. These generally are cleaner and pass through less splices. The The only other thing you can do is call the phone company and complain of an intermittant ringing noise on the line. They will have to come test your stuff, and might find a corroded connection. Odds are good that they won't find anything, and charge you for a service call!
