    Welcome to Windrivers Crumb

Suggest you change the single stick of 512 for 2x256

memtest86 here is a good ram checker, will make a bootable cd or diskette. Let it run for at least 7 full tests per stick/slot

Nah..never makes it to reading the floppy drive. I got a good 128mb stick of Mushkin PC133 tho--might stick that in there & see if it gets any farther.

    Thumbs up XP vs. 2K

Now I still have a problem with my connectors though. The only thing that works is the HDD LED and the power switch (which I guess I shouldn't complain too much :lol ) But the reset switch, power led, and the speaker do not seem to work.

    Is there something I'm missing???
I got the reset switch to work and the power LED. I think I posted pin numbers earlier in this thread.

    (Hello Noo-Noo; I've been away...)

I have found that this board hates Windows 2000 and causes the OS to do dispicable things, like give a memory dump error on startup. Anyhow, WinXP seems to work great! Haven't tried SP2 yet, though.

This post was the most helpful resource I've found on this mobo.

Does anyone have a list on the exact processors it will take? I know it doesn't like XP processors, or generally anything faster than 1200 megahertz.

As a side note, the motherboard cooked a K7 Athlon 1.2 GHZ processor that was supposed to be compatible.

Yes, from what I understand, it is possible to change the flash from ami to award.... but you need to get Ruslan and/or Garak's opinion on that.

    from compgeeks
    Model: MS-6330 Ver: 2.1
    CPU Support:
AMD Athlon up to 1.4 GHz with "A" prefix on CPU
AMD Duron up to 1000 MHz with "D" prefix on CPU
Note: Does not support any XP series Athlon processors

    msi 6330 info

Other versions (MS-6330 LE3) do show higher processor compatibility, but do not be fooled - msi has a nasty habit of using the same model number for very different boards.

If that K7 you tried was the 133 version, it wouldn't have worked.... but it shouldn't have cooked it.

I've done this several times, and I know from talking to Ruslan that he has done also. You can use AMIFlash to do this, by turning off certain features *digs out AMIflash*

See screendump for settings or in AMIflash terms "Flags".

(And who said Print SCRN wasn't useful :P)

Hm. It was the 266 version. Plugged it in with the heatsink, powered it on, and next thing I know I see a wisp of smoke and smell that distinct aroma.

Ok crowd, I broke the damn thing.
It flashed to the Award bios with no problems.
Rebooted and posted fine, hung up on the Award screen (press DEL to enter setup)
Used the AmiFlash and typed in the Awardflash file. Tell me how the following will (maybe) fix it
    Gateway
    Award recovery
    Ami recovery

    Thanks

Did you reset the CMOS jumper when you reflashed the BIOS? if not, do it. should make all your problems go away

*I knew there was something I forgot to mention in that earlier post..*

The only jumper I found was the "password/flash recovery" I yanked the battery for 5 mins and no dice. Im on the East coast of the US so its 6:00am here. I left the battery out overnight last night but have not tried it yet. Is there more jumpers and if so where?

    Thanks

Lets unplug the thing AND yank the battery just for the sake of argument.
