Please help!!! My Cd-RW Drive won't read blank CD-R or CD-RW discs.
Someone please help me, I'm not very good at all this!
Even though My CD-RW Drive is (according to my computer) fully functional, It won't acknowledge any blank CD_R or CD-RW discs.
I have Windows 98 2nd Ed, and I use Nero and InCD. I have previously uninstalled older versions of both Nero and InCD and reinstalled updates. This seems to have taken any other problems away except this one. When I go to write to a disc, I get a message saying 'There is no disk in Drive E. Insert a disk and then try again.' But there is already a disk in it.
I'm not sure what other info to give you except that it starts trying to read the disk, but doesn't find it.
I've also tried cleaning it, but to no effect.
The CD-RW is acer 20x10x40
Help me, please. It's driving me to distraction!! I would be sooo grateful...

Welcome to Windrivers thedizzyone
It could be a configuration problem with windows or it could be that the burning laser died.
Try this
Uninstall Incd and Nero - reboot
download this and install it by double clicking the downloaded file.
Reboot
Install nero - do NOT install incd
Reboot
Does it work now?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

CD-RW won't read CD-R or CD_RW disks
NooNoo,
Thanks for your advice, I did exactly as you suggested, but it still won't read the disks. It isn't making a particularly healthy noise either?!
Could it be the laser? and if So, what should I do?
Your help is much appreciated.

How old is the drive? Less than a year and you have the receipt, get it exchanged.
Does it read other cds, shop bought?

OK the next thing to do would be to remove it from your system and try it in another, if it still doesn't burn, it died.

Thanks for your help NooNoo,
It was much appreciated. I think it has died, and I'll have to replace it.
