    Firewire Card + Hard Drive

    Hello,

I ve just bought a firewire PCMCIA card and connected it to two laptops. The drivers were recognised by winXP and installed successfully. I can even see the card appearing in "Network Connections". However when I connect my powered external hard drive with a 6-pin to 6-pin cable nothing happens ! the hard drive is not detected ! I have searched around and couldn't find an adequate answer ! thanx for your help in advance

Welcome to the WD forums neodjadre.

Is the drive already formatted or not ? Generally they just appear once connected (if formatted ) in my computer.

hello pal , the drive is NTFS 120GB maxtor in a firewire enclosure.. It has about 50GB of used space ! it works fine when I connect it to my build in firewire port so the problem lies with the card ..

You r a genius mate ! I don't know how but it is working now on both laptops .. strange ...

I think I know what did the trick ..
    first

    1) connect the cable on the firewire card

    2) then power on the external hard drive

    3) finally connect the cable to the hard drive

    4) IT WORKS !!!

thanks so much ! some other ppl had similar problems .. this may be a solution (?)
