Sounds to me like you might have a RAM problem, check your RAM or use a new RAM and check

Besides the memory, having an internal Zip drive installed during the install has been known to cause problems like this. If you have one, disconnect it and restart the install.

i would remove anything that is not needed during the installation. like modem, sound, nic, zip drive. and so fourth. the only thing that is needed to get windows installed is vid, cpu, ram, cdrom(1), HDD(1). anything more than that i would disconnect if possible or turn off in bios. good luck.

computer still froze after i....
replaced the ram with a known good working one. i also did the memtest86 v1.30 on the old ram and it tested okay so i know it is not the ram. so what causes it to hang?
anyway it hangs on the part where the install does the final tasks right on the registering components mode.....
i have a nic card installed so i might remove that too and try again. i also tried w2k server and advanced server before using the w2k pro and all three froze on the same spot "completing final tasks" portion of the install.
any other suggestions? should i just bring this back to the place i bought it? or maybe the setup configuration for the bios, pnp, etc.... is wrong?
tia,
dave
