Externl USB drive, causes XP to freeze on boot
Hi folks. Ok, ... I have a 40GB PIKA Flycase ext usb2 drive.
If it is plugged into a usb socket whilst booting up XP home, the boot will freeze. The only way to restart is to reboot, and remove the usb device. I could live with this if it wasn't for the fact that I have certain programmes that need to see the USB drive immediately. Ie - I cannot hotplug it in post boot.
So, any ideas on why this happens? Can't help but think it must be something pretty simple??? (Hopes)
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to Windrivers cawright1...
Try loading the drivers for the Flycase prior to connecting it.

Actually- also check to see if your motherboard has legacy USB as an option. If this is enabled, this can also cause the system to hang. I have seen this on several intel boards with any type of storage device-- from thumb drives, to external hard drives, even printers with memory card slots. diabling the legacy usb support fixed this every time.

Thanks guys.
Ok - the loading the drivers each time I tuen on the pc is a bit of a nightmare really. Not a solution as such.
As for disabling Legacy. Hmm. Cannopt see it in Bios? Bit of a beginner though so may have missed it.
The motherboard is an Asus K8V SE. Maybe you know if this does have Legacy?

Sorry you misunderstood me. What I meant was uninstall the drivers than reinstall them before you connect the device. Just once, not everytime you use the machine.
