What is the best way to move files over the network?

I am moving large amounts of AutoCAD projects from one server to another over the network. Yes I know it would be easier/faster to just slave the drive to the server and copy it locally, but I am stuck with this for now. Anyway,.. I click on a folder, select "cut" then locate my destination and select "paste". The folder begins to move, then a few minutes later stops with the message that I am posting below. My question is: How do I turn this feature off? Yes I am sure I want to copy it or I wouldn't have selected it in the first place. lol (dumb computer). Anyway, tonight I will start a large amount of data and I don't want to come back in the morning only to find it stopped halfway through with this dumb message. Any ideas?

Hmm,.. looks pretty good except I wonder if it will work on Win2K? It seems like it will. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I do wish there was a way to just turn off the attribute in Windows that makes it even ask that question in the first place.

Confirmed: Requires XP or equivalent (Win2K3). Bummer. Well, I'll see if there is an XP computer available in the building to do this with.

It's great! Won't ask you any annoying questions, and you can set it to retry files that don't make it...like if you are trying to recover files from a damaged disc or hard drive. It's not perfect, but I recommend it.

And thus far it has worked on every OS from Win95 to WinXP.

That's cool. I started using the "SecuRE|Copy²" program that I linked above. It seems pretty good so far. This sort of thing is new to me. I've never had to copy this much data before over a network so I'm having trouble trusting any of these 3rd party apps. I'm sure something is going to go wrong. We do have backup tapes just in case,.. but I'd really just like to get this stuff copied cleanly, securely and safely without having to use the tapes. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I found "copying" rather than "cutting" (or "moving" files) to not work well for this particular thing. For instance, let's say it starts copying, then an error happens,.. I pretty much have to start all over because I would have no idea of where it left off. With cutting, I can at least continue on where I left off. But even that is a royal pain in the rear. And with the amount of data and the time frame I have to do this, I can't afford that kind of situation.

Btw,.. I think I got my solution. I'm using the program I linked above. Moved all the data into one folder and let 'er rip. It "skips" on errors so I can go back and manually deal with the left overs, but most of it should go overnight (I hope).

Look behind you ... I suggested it a while back, but it won't work on Windows 2000 ...
