    Recovering my Toshiba Satellite M55

    Hi,

My local vendor has chnaged my MB for the above machine. But as it is semi-official agent of Toshiba (we live in Iran! That explains all) they could not correct the DMI. I found a "chgdmi.exe" on the root of the recovery DVD. I have read all the instructions in a thread posted on year 2004, with the topic "Updating DMI for Tosh Satellite 5005-S504" which the people there had the same problem as I do.

"Damned Angel" (sweet name pal). has explained there that this utility should easily work by entering the name of the machine, which mine is "Satellite M55".

Well i did that, it didn't work,

    Here what happens:
1- My version of chgdmi.exe does not work in DOS.
2- When I run it in windows it prompts me to enter the new product name.
3- I key in "Satellite M55" and press ok button.
4- A blue screen pops up with some messages on it. But the computer immediately restarts and i couldn't read the messages. But it is like the error screens which sometimes appear when you have a bad hardware problem or a crash. It seems like DOS screens.
5- After the computer restarts, I again try to use the recovery disk, but i get the message: "This recovery and Application CD is not configured to work with this machine (*).
The CD is for Satellite M55, Satellite M50
Please use the correct Recovery and Application CD."

Now, could anyone tell me what i should do?

    Tnx.

It seems to work on every model Toshiba has produced, other than mine.

got a GOOD answer - copy the recovery disk to dvd and then edit the .bat file and then run it.

I personally don't consider modifying software that SHOULD support your comp to actually support your comp as 'hacking', I consider it survival.
