Ipod Issue

My Ipod works fine with firewire on my pc...

I got a USB cable so when I am somewhere without firewire and can use the ipod as a drive....

I have windows xp but when I try to hook up the device via usb the ipod turns on but doesn't charge or say do not disconnect.

I have looked for a usb driver to no avail. i get the bubble in the bottom right hand corner that says USB Device not recognized. I click on the bubble and unknown device is in bold...

any suggestions?

Make sure you're using USB2 ports on your PC. The "do not disconnect" is an "undocumented feature" of the Ipod on a PC. You can safely eject it using the Eject icon in itunes or by using winXP's "Safel;y remove hardware".
