Sharing internet connection
my GF has just got cable broadband connected, and was wanting to use another computer on the same connection. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good website that explains it. Her modem is a USB one. Cheers

Which version of Windows are you using?
Are your two computers already sharing files via Eternet/Cat 5, etc.?
If you are hooking the two directly together without going thru a router, then the crossover cable is required to go to your network cards. If going thru a router, then any normal Cat 5 cable should work for you.

Notice the link for ICS, How to.
Also, see Troubleshooting Internet Connection Sharing on Microsoft Windows XP It has a .doc file for you to download. Lots of good info there.

Routers you need a straight through "patch" cable
If you join the two pcs together without a router then you need a crossover "patch" cable. Asking for a patch cable is not enough
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Go with a router like Linksys, that is what I use, with normal "run of the mill" ethernet cables. Makes life easy
