    Angry TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B Doesn't Recognize Blank DVD's

My DVD burner has always worked great. I've burned many data, music and video discs....Now just the other day I put in a blank DVD to burn off a movie and my program said it had insufficient space....HMMM?? So I went into My Computer and cheked the drive, when I put in the blank disc It's like the drive changes to just a CDR drive. It seems to know it is a DVD, but can't burn it. Also when I put in the blank DVD and the little "What do you want Windows to do?" screen pops up it says it is a blank CD and gives me the list of programs I can use to burn a CD. One of these choices is this....

The symbols change almost every time. I've talked to 4 different techs and none of them could help. I've updated firmware, uninstalled and reinstalled the drive bought new anti-spy/virus software and cleaned out a ton of crap, but no change. I don't get it. Please help.

I have the same drive and have had nothing but problems from it. It takes 30-45 secs to read a cd of any kind, although lately it has done ok with DVD's...anyway, I believe this is a rather problematic drive, and since you probably got it at bargain basement prices, you may be best off replacing it with a quality device...

Strange I got 2 and they both work flawlessly
It may be toast and the fastest way to test it is in another machine.
But I suspect its a software issue with that weird symbl your getting

    Welcome to WinDrivers, bigphill.

Since you've posted in this topic, does that mean you have a TS-H552B drive? If so, just its age would suggest it might be getting a bit tired.

However, for any drive, failure to read some disks can indicate a weakening laser or a dirty laser lens. If the drive cannot read a bootable Windows installation CD, the only thing you can try is cleaning the lens. If it still can't read to boot from a disk that will boot in another computer, the drive needs to be replaced.
