Driver problems with Xp pro X64?
Hi,
Ive just built a new pc for a friend, and they wanted X64 OS on it, Its a Athlon 64 proc. Im having problems with a modem driver for a BT voyager. I install the software, and plug the USB in then it hangs. It says its installed but the modem doesnt work, and it wont let me remove the drivers. Is this a common thing with X64? Are there any ways around this? Cheers. Forgot to mention that its definately the OS causing this, coz when i tried installing my normal Xp pro, i had no problems.

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Just tried installing AOL and i cant even get that on. Can anyone recomend a good ISP that supports 64bit OS, and unlimited downloads for broadband? Preferably 2mb or higher. Cheers

If you could get one of the modems that have an ethernet port, you wouldnt need to worry about drivers for the modem.

Ive got one mate, problem with that is i cant seem to access secure sites, like online banking etc, and automatic updates dont work either. But thatdoesnt matter now because AOL software doesnt work, so im gonna have to get a new ISP lol.

Its not the ISP that needs to support the OS, its the hardware. If you get a modem/router type device, then you needed worry about drivers other than for your LAN card.
You can always try other ISP's if you really want to change, NTL seems to be quite popular.

Raffaz if you can get a Router/modem of which AOL approves, then you solve the problem without having to move isp.

AOL uses its own software to connect and that wont load onto pc, thats why i think im gonna have to switch. Ive already got a wireless router/modem, but i cant get it configured properly to use secure sites.

I know, but it is also possible to get an AOL approved modem/router so that you connect via lan rather than directly from the modem.

The current versions of AOL don't support 64 bit if you wish to use AOL youv'e got to use previous versions of OS.
