GOOGLE NEWS: Google searches mass transport
Google has launched a beta of a new transit service that helps users plan a trip using public transport. The service gives the user door to door directions including estimated walking times to the nearest station or bus stop. It also lists costs for the transit fare and the estimated cost of the trip if the user would have driven a car instead.
Driving costs are based on the cost per mile of $0.405 that the Internal Revenue Service allows business to deduct as a business expense. It doesn’t include toll charges or parking fees. While the service's interface looks a lot like Google Local, the transit service for now won't be integrated.
The beta currently only contains data on the public transport system of Portland, Oregon. Google is inviting transport agencies across the world to contact the company to provide timetables and fare schedules.

-I used a local system like this (not of Google's) in Europe, personally I found it really helpful, up-to-date timetables, journey planners, it made moving around a whole lot easier, and plannable.
At the rate Google introduce new features/products, how long before they bundle it all together and offer you an OS
