epson perfection 1250 scanner
the scanner claimes to be a 48 bit scanner but only scans in 24 bit. why? i have tried both win 98 and win xp.

Ah! but is it true 48 bit or interpolated[?] 48 bit i.e. software enhanced ?

In case you haven't already done so, go here for <a href="http://support.epson.com/hardware/scanner/pr125_/index.html" target="_blank">downloads for your scanner</a> . You might notice newer versions of your scanning software & drivers. Also, notice the links at the top for Documentaion and Troubleshooting...lots of good info there.

I was able to find this: <a href="http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/pr125_/pr125_u1/twain_3.htm#color%20photo%2042-bit%20c" target="_blank">Selecting an Image Type </a> . It says that "This setting (42-bit color) is available only in certain applications, such as Adobe® Photoshop®" and is "for Perfection 1650 only."

My question is, do you really need 48Bit over 24Bit? If I remember correctly, the human eye can only see 16 or 24 bit (and 99% of the output quality if your printing is the printer).
I scan at 16Bit (300DpI) and they come out great...
(I never understood why they push that so much, along with the DPI)...

its the black and white in 16 bit not 8 bit i really want, but i guess im not going to get it :/
bit dodgy saying 48bit scanner on the box when it doesnt produce 48bit colour images
