    Need Presario 2100 Sound driver

    Hello -

    I recently purchased a used Compaq Presario 2100, which worked fine with XP. I took XP off and loaded Win 2000 Pro. Everything works fine except for the sound. I need the drivers for the sound and cannot seem to find them anywhere. Compaq/HP website has a ton a drivers for this machine but no sound drivers. Anyone know where to look?

    Which model 2100 is it? Looks like there are a boatload of those.

    Something stoopid to try, but sometimes works, is to visit the Windows Update website and see if any hardware updates are available.

    I just completed the installation of 2 Compaq PCs in the shop here where the sound card and NIC were not recognized by Win2000 (was using a USB NIC temporarily) and when checking our all the updates those exact ones I needed were being offered.

    Worked like a charm and I didn't spend hours (OK, minutes) looking for those drivers on the HP site.

    Maybe Everest Home Edition can help identify the actual manufacturer of the sound card chip http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html Maybe you can go straight to the source.
