Floppy drive won't work after upgrade
I have a Hewlett Packard BRIO that had Windows95 on it.I upgraded to Windows98SE and now the floppy drive doesn't work at all.It worked with Windows95.Everything else works except the floppy drive.I tried the floppy upgrade in add hardware and that didn't work either.

Re: Floppy drive won't work after upgrade
Hi, I had a similar problem only to find out that the floppy drive [they're not infallable] had packed it in. I tried swapping it with a known drive from a newer machine and that cured the problem. Win98 is excellent as it has many support drivers making plug and play a breeze. However, another approach might be to visit the HP site to see if there is a dedicated driver for the Floppy Drive.

Does it show up in Device Manager? Any exclamation marks?
If so, you might try Removing that device and hit Refresh. Windoze should go back out and reload the drivers for that device. You might need your Win98SE Startup CD if it asks for it. Or, the drivers might already be loaded on your hard drive.
And again, it is possible that the floppy drive itself has gone bad. It happens. When you least expect it.
Of course, you've already tried different floppy disks, cycling power, making sure the floppy drive is configured in BIOS, etc.
I'm good enough.
I'm smart enough.
And doggone it,

I always got taught never to assume, so to make sure the drive is working or not, I'd suggest you try & boot from a floppy & that way whatever operating system it is, won't be affecting matters ( find your 95 boot floppy, open bios & set it to boot from a).
If you can boot from a floppy, that tells you somethings wrong with windoze, if not, your floppy drive has co-incidentally failed.
