Post Dell Bios vs Intel Bios

I have a Dell PC with an Intel Mobo SE440BX. I was wondering if I could flash my bios with the file off Intels site or do I have no choice but to use a dell bios since its a dell pc? I know I probably should use the Dell one just to be safe but the Intel file is newer than the Dell one. Since it IS an Intel mobo then shouldnt I be able to use that Intel file?

    Thanks

    Cool

I used to post extensively on one of the Intel Motherboard forums, and the moderators used to advise against flashing an oem motherboard (dell, Gateway etc..) with the Intel BIOS. However, some people tried it with good results. Just make sure that you have the old BIOS backed up, so you can flash back, just in case.

Also, to quote the Intel moderators: "Realize that Dell may have modified the motherboard, and flashing it with an Intel BIOS may cause it to become a wall hanging..."

    Good Luck !!

I've never had issues of any sort when using Intel retail BIOS images on OEM boards.

However, since many will require you to set the recovery jumper to unconditionally flash the file you have (damned Phoenix flasher!), you'd better make good and sure that you not only have the correct BIOS file, but also a good floppy disk.
