    USB 2.0 PCMCIA Cardbus Problem

I just bought an Adaptec USB 2.0 PCMCIA card for my laptop sporting the old USB 1.1.

I wanted to run my DVD burner, but I end up getting screen-freeze after a certain amount of time into data transfers and such.

I don't know what to do! If these PCMCIA cards cause my computer to freeze up, how can I ever use my external DVD burner?

    accckkkk!

Anyway, thanks for the help if it can be given. It looks like lots of people all over the net have had similar problems with all types of these USB 2.0/Firewire cardbusses.......

Oh yeah-- I flashed/upgraded my bios... no fix.... I tried different software....... nothing helps.

    decolem01:Welcome to Windrivers.

What Operating system is installed including latest
    updates and Service Packs?

I think you need the USB2.0 support.

    Operating System / Updates

Thanks for the reply. I have Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 installed. Latest updates? I have auto-update on so I don't know when I'm getting an update or not.

I went onto Windows Update to see if there are any options saying I could add USB 2.0 support, but there aren't. The only thing it said I had available to upgrade was my .net framework... hmm... How do I know if I have USB 2.0 support?

    Thanks,
    -David

The www.usbman.com site has a lot of help and information.

The below link below tells you how to check for USB 2.0.

Yup, I do have 2.0.... hmm...

I checked, and based on what the webpage says, I actually have USB 2.0 capability.

In my device manager it says, "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller."

    Hmm.....

Many items need more power than the Adaptec USB 2.0 PCMCIA card will supply without an external power supply.I don't know if this is your case or not.Saw this mentioned during web search.
