    Question Network printer setup

I have an older HP Laserjet 4 plus printer with a built in network card, how do I set it up on my network so that all the computers can access it without having to connect it directly to one of then. In other words connecting it directly to the network. All computers are running XP home except one is running ME

if it has a network card built in the I expect all you need is to plug it into whatever shares the internet like the router

    Bin there done that
I've set up the printers internal IP address (192.168.1.10)
Used XP's printer wizard /clicked local printer /created new port(HP Standard tcp/ip port) /followed through with the resulting wizard, but no luck windows says it can't find printer. What am I doing wrong?

That's what I thought, but, when you start the printer wizard it tells you
"To set up a network printer that is not attached to a print server, use the local printer option"
So that is what I did

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

That's the same way I setup network printers. Should work fine like that. Make sure you have the subnet mask on the printer set to the same as your pc. Can you ping the printer?

Print out a configuration page on the printer if you haven't already done so to verify that it held the ip you put in. It's under the test menu.

Thanks for everyones help. I finally got it all working. The network cable I was using was faulty once I replaced it everything worked great, (should have notice the light on hub wasn't on when I pluged the cable in) with one exception the ME computer still couldn't find it. So I did a work around. I set it up as a network printer going though an XP computer. That worked but that means that particular computer must always be on for the ME computer to access the printer. I'm going to try the Wizard Noo Noo suggested and see if that works.
I'll let you know what happens.
