Dell Laptop Computer Hard Disk errors.

I am looking for some assistance with an issue I will explain.

I have a Dell Laptop 2650 and the harddrive crashed. I have another Dell 8000 that my daughter broke the screen and remove the harddrive and placed it in the Dell 2650.(Hitachi travelstar - HTS424030M9AT00).

After installing this drive, I attempted to load windows XP, and the error messages of "cannot copy this file" popped up continuously, eventually cancelling installation.

Next, I attempted to load Windows 7. Installation completed all the way to the point asking for hard disk drivers, either by floppyN/A, CD rom, or Flash drive. I have searched for these drivers and have had no results. A "Driver Tool" will not work for this issue.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please respond ASAP.

Check the jumper pin on the drive. If it's set to CS - try setting it to Master.

It looks like you're in good hands with Steve and CCT.

You may not want to share that kind of information so openly. It opens you up to all kinds of not so nice issues from strangers on the net.

Since it is a laptop drive, don't worry about jumpers. When you load Windows 7, you need to delete the partition under advanced options before you try to load an operating system. If you don't know how to do this, or are uncomfortable doing this, I suggest taking it to a qualified technician. I assume this is an Inspiron series, so here is the driver page. Good luck!
