Do not stand at my grave and weep
Forgot to set alarm clock, so didn't go to church. Started reading one of my late Mother's booklets and inside found a cutting .. I think she meant me to find it....although she passed away in 1991. So came online to share this with others and to find the author.
I feel it is appropriate to all who have lost loved ones, whether pets or humans ... yes, the words may be very familiar, but worth reading again ...
Generally now attributed to Mary Frye but not officially copyrighted.
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Eagles - Dust In The Wind Lyrics
I close my eyes
only for a moment
and the momentīs gone
All my dreams
pass before my eyes a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song
just a drop of water
in an endless sea
All we do
crumbles to the ground
though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Donīt hang on
nothing lasts forever
but the earth and sky
It slips away
all your money wonīt another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

Yep, Kansas originally, but it has been covered by everyone on the planet. So, confusion in some quarters is pretty much inevitable. Heck, some folks believe Henry VIII wrote Greensleeves.

Nope, it was one of his wives. He just got the rights in the divorce.
I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet.

I'm not sure what to say .. but thanks for the kind, sensitive postings at the beginning of this thread ... it was meant to be an encouragement to those who had lost loved ones.

I also deeply apologize, Mags. I did not mean to diminish or sleight this posting. The best way I have found to deal with deep loss is through humor and a deep and unshakeable faith in something greater than this mortal existence.
When my wife was critically ill and her oldest son, who still hasn't reconciled himself to his younger brother's death, was desperate and distraught, my advice to him was to find whatever it was he truly believed in and to hang on to it. For that is the only thing that will get you past those terrible moments, when you are truly and utterly by yourself, facing life's uncompromising harshness. We are all of us so much more than these fleshy sacks of assorted organs. We bear the spark of the immortal, a touch of the eternity beyond this mortal exiztence. It is for the survivors that we weep, for they are the ones left behind.
I didn't surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet.

That struck a chord !
Hmmm ... in a while, I'm going down 'Memory Lane', visiting a part of England where I was once a baby and my mother, before that. Grandma and Grandpa have gone; my Mum has gone; my Dad has gone; other relatives have gone; even my cat has gone. BUT I will see my Godmother, who is older than last I saw her; and I will meet two people who were helped by my late Aunt and I will visit the site of the Royal Air Force Camp where once I marched, thankfully the RAF Remembrance Chapel is still there at Biggin Hill, Kent .. can remember reading something Christmassy there.
Am I mad? Is it right to go back? I have no choice, I must go - to visit these three people and walk with them down their own 'Memory Lanes', for their past is linked with my past.
And when I come back, what will we have?
