    Cool What's your favorite music?

Hey just figured this would be an interesting way to see who has what kind of tastes and get to know each other a little more. There is no limit to how many types anyone likes just try to avoid listing every genre there is

To kick it off I'll give mine Industrial (like Funker Vogt, Rammstein, and Icon of Coil), and Classical. Yep I have a uniquely odd pairing.

I dislike warbling opera but most other things I will listen too, depends on my mood.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

There is an apocryphal story about Duke Ellington: someone asked him what kind of music he liked; and he replied, "There are only two types of music, good music and bad music. Good music is the kind I like."

Me, too. I like good music.

    I'm with you there hi...

You've got to find some way of saying it without saying it.

My music tastes go from classical (like Noo I don't like warbling opera) through to Gorillaz. I don't mind a little bit of trad jazz (not the wandery modern stuff), fond of ELO, then a lot of stuff I've liked over the years. Air Supply, Little River Band, some Elton John, Leo Sayer, Billy Joel, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Lobo, Carole King, Travelling Wilburies, Bread, The Hollies, Missy Higgins, Dido...

In Gospel music, I mostly like late 70's thru to 90's like Keith Green, Amy Grant, Jamie Owens-Collins, Don Francisco, 2nd Chapter of Acts/Matthew Ward, Michael W Smith, Kathy Troccoli, Sierra...

My all-time favourite piece of music is Camille Saint-Saens C Minor Organ Symphony - the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra/Louis Fremaux recording. I was really pleased to find recently that it had been re-released on CD, so I got it from the US. The beautiful deep bass crystalized my prototyping an enclosureless dipole subwoofer (thru-the-wall) for myself. That's stalled at the moment because I'll have to dismantle the wall and eliminate the rattles in the frame before re-cladding with something more suitable than plaster, particle board probably...

I have a serious jones for late 70's and early 80's rock (ELO, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, et.al), a mild like for modern adult contemporary (Dido, The Fray, John Mayer, etc) but over everything else I will always go for heavy symphonic classical music like Dvorak, Berlioz, Shostakovich, and so on.

    1. Pink Floyd
    2. Queensryche
    3. Rolling Stones
    4. Iron maiden
    5. Boston
    6. Queen
    7. Van Morrison

    10. Three Dog Night

I like most other stuff as well, but these are the ones I listen to most.

Just an addendum, I am a huge sucker for Beethoven especially the Moonlight Sonata.

Let's stir things up with something provocative and push the envelope more than just a little here.

Bryan Deno: A Tribute to Joseph Spence

    Wikipedia Stub: Joseph Spence

Forewarning -- You have abandon most of your preconceptions about music (time, tuning, etc.) and go with the flow of what is actually here: It is raw, primitive, complex, and great fun!

And I get to sneak in an early Merry Christmas to everyone.

    I love this guy.

Edit: a good bio of Spence - http://biography.jrank.org/pages/248...ce-Joseph.html

The Joseph Spence stuff is wild, house, thanks.

A side link to someone who really "feels" the pain in Max Bruch's music:

That, my friend, was raw, innocent, naïve genius. Brilliant guitar playing.

Here are two sanitized renditions of Spence's Great Dream from Heaven:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LiLf...eature=related

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CufrC...eature=related

Stripped of Spence's eccentricities, such as his idiosyncratic tuning and sense of time and his vocalizations, the renditions above are comparatively sterile. But they do allow his compositional genius to shine through for those who are distracted by the eccentricities and fail to see the diamond in the rough. Sweet hymnal melody and harmonies. Crazy Afro-Carribean rhythm/syncopation. Lovely. Lovely.
