OMG the service manual tells you many many things. The part numbers, the screw sizes, the names of the parts, how to take it apart and put it back together... but it does not tell you whether the motherboard is dual channel memory capable or not.

Please stop this, please phone HP.

I have the service manual .... not difficult post the page of the service manual where it shows that the motherboard is dual channel memory capable.

That's a stick of ram, not the motherboard architecture. Please post the motherboard architecture showing dual memory controllers for the Intel based ZV5000.

Sorry it doesn't, it means it's a stick of Double Data Rate RAM. It says nothing about dual memory controllers required on the motherboard for an Intel Processor.

I would be grateful if you would post your explanation of a P4 3.06ghz.

I'm confused..OMG..if what you are saying is correct, then how can my single 1 gb stick of ram (DDR) operating in single channel mode be providing me with the full speed of my 3.4 ghz P4? If I have to have dual channel controllers to get my full processor speed, then why does everest list my processor as "Intel Pentium 4 550, 3400 mhz (17x200)"

I'm sorry OMG, I have tried, but unfortunately not to your satisfaction, so I must ask you to explain how a 3.0ghz processor works.

You see daughter's prescott 3.0ghz processor continues to report as 3.0ghz and there is only one stick of RAM.

That laptop uses the following processors - is it just the 3.06ghz processor that needs two sticks of RAM to be 3.06ghz?

    Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 3.06-GHz, 533-MHz
    Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 2.80-GHz, 533-MHz
    Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 2.40-GHz, 533-MHz
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 DT, 3.06-GHz
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 DT, 2.80-GHz
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 DT, 2.66-GHz
    AMD Athlon 64, 2.40-GHz
    AMD Athlon 64, 2.20-GHz
    AMD Athlon 64, 2.00-GHz
    AMD Athlon 64, 1.80-GHz
    AMD Athlon 32, 1.80-GHz
    AMD Athlon 32, 1.60-GHz

    Interesting....

    In post #68 you said
"NooNoo explain how to achieve 3.0ghz processor without dual channeling"
    In post #85 you said
Now NooNoo please post achieving 3.06ghz without dual channel technology on the MB.
    That is entireley different from
PC might report 3.0ghz on boot up with 1 stick of DDR ram but the PC is not utilizing full 3.0 ghz
which you said in post #90

The ability to use every clock cycle in the processor is dependent on how long the processor has to wait for the data. Where there is dual channel memory architecture, the processor has to wait less because of the amount of data that can be transferred from the RAM.

If there is only a single channel of RAM, the performance is not halved. This is because the processor is not always waiting on the RAM.

I have. I get the same results as other people - I have posted one link to an extensive test between an AMD 3500 dual channel and and AMD 3400 single channel.
    Here is another.

If you only put two pistons in a 4 piston engine, you would be lucky to get it to start, let alone accelerate!

    I haven't side stepped
You told me to run tests. I already have. How is that side stepping?

On the matter of engines... if you have a 4 piston engine where a no compression is achieved in a bore, it is the same as not having a piston at all in that bore. Two would be catastrophic.

My mother taught me how to strip an engine when I got my first car... the piston rings had cracked on two of the pistons and had scratched the bores. The car would not start. One engine strip, a rebore and a rebalanced crankshaft, new shells and oversized pistons and rings, cleaned up the valves and head and redid the timings... one free car!

I build specialist machines. I don't have stock waiting to be used. My bread and butter is in upgrading existing machines and removing whatever net nasty they caught this week on a part time basis.

If I get an order that is not going to be picked up straight away, I will. In the mean time, maybe others have the requisite stock hanging about an a few minutes to do some tests. For the next 3 weeks, I am doing php/mysql.

ummm I don't get it. You put up a big smiley when you posted about the engine. When I told you my experience you called it nonsense? Why? I don't understand why you pose a scenario and when it is answered with real world experience you call it nonsense?

    Exactly which bit is nonsense?

In what context? I want to make sure that I don't side step again.
